Of course, let’s keep it all in perspective. Football is not everything. Jesus is. Football is temporary. Jesus is eternal. Let’s have fun cheering for our teams, but let’s keep it in perspective. Don’t let sports become an idol in your life.

Exodus 20:3-6
3  Do not have other gods besides me. 4  Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. 5  Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the fathers’ iniquity, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 6  but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.

1 Timothy 4:8
8  For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Matthew 28:18-20
18  Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19  Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

We give our lives to lead people to life-changing faith in Jesus.

  1. When I first saw this post, I said silently to myself, “Football???” Then I read further, and as Mr. Gomez said, the opening was an attention getter. Although I am not a sports fan of any sort, I kept reading to see where you were going with that. 🙂

    1. Many times my posts have a spiritual connection, but the sports talk posts and driving tips posts don’t always. This one does for sure. In our sports-crazed culture, we who enjoy sports have to remember to keep everything in perspective, and to keep our eyes focused on the main thing, Jesus.
