Quick summary of my life: I was born in Athens, GA. I grew up in a small town 35 miles NE of Atlanta called Dacula, GA. Three things that were really important to our family when I was growing up were: family, sports, and church. I played baseball, basketball, and football as a kid.
At the age of 13, I realized I was a sinner in need of a Savior, and I trusted in Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of my life. He changed my life forever, and I am still following Him to this day.
I had a dream of playing college football, but that dream was shattered by (what should have been a simple) knee surgery. Somewhere during the knee surgery I contracted a staph infection, which almost killed me. Three weeks in the hospital, including 3 more surgeries to remove the infection, and after losing 30 pounds I was sent home to finish my recovery. My football career was over, but God used that time in my life to begin calling me to a lifetime of serving Him in full-time ministry.
After graduating from Dacula High School in 1989, I attended Shorter College (now Shorter University). I met my wife, Kim, in college. I chased her until she caught me. We both graduated from Shorter, and were married in 1994. During college, I served as a volunteer and intern at a few churches, including a year on staff at Hollywood Baptist Church (Rome, GA). After college, I served as a youth pastor at Hebron Baptist Church (Dacula, GA) for about 9 years. While serving at Hebron, I had the opportunity to attend the North Georgia Extension of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 2001 with a Masters of Divinity. Our kids were born in 1998, 2001, and 2004. In the fall of 2001, our family followed the Lord’s call to serve Him in Lake Placid, NY.
For over nine years I served as the pastor of Lake Placid Baptist Church, the director of North Country Ministries, and the Resort Evangelism Strategist for the Baptist Convention of New York. During that time, I led a weekly Bible study at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid and served as an unofficial chaplain for the USA Bobsled & Skeleton team, among other winter sports. We did lots of ministry at the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon each summer. Also, I had the privilege of serving as a chaplain at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.
I am married to a pretty cool lady, and we have three pretty amazing kids.
In 2011, the Lord called our family back to GA, where I serve as the executive pastor of Hebron Church. At Hebron, we give our lives to lead people to life-changing faith in Jesus! Every week I play basketball and flag football with guys from the community and guys from our church. I am a community coach for Dacula High School Lacrosse, and Kim and I follow our kids around to all of their sports and music activities. I serve as a trustee for the International Mission Board and for Shorter University, and I’m actively involved in the Dacula Business Association.
