On October 31, many of your neighbors will come over to your house, dressed in costumes, asking for free candy. Let’s take this opportunity to get to know our neighbors better and advance the cause of Christ at the same time.
So here’s the idea:
Set up a “mini fall festival’ in your yard. It can be as simple as a small game for kids and a pot of coffee for adults, or as elaborate as you can imagine. The main thing is to have fun and take a minute to invest in and invite your neighbors.
At our house, we’re going to lower our basketball goal to 8 feet and have all the kids see how many baskets they can make in 30 seconds. We will also have ladder ball set up. After they shoot a few baskets, they can throw the ladder balls and see how many points they score. We may even set another game or two up so they can choose or in case we get a lot of kids at once who stop by. After they play the games, we’ll give them a handful of candy and an invite card for them and their family to join us at church soon.
Here are a few games and things that I’ve heard others are going to have in their yard/driveway:
- Fire pit with s’mores
- Football toss
- Corn hole
- Bowling (plastic ball and pins)
- Video games
- Baseball throw
- Basketball shots
- Ladder ball
- Coffee, tea and hot chocolate
- Soccer kicks
- Lacrosse toss
- Hula hoops
- Chalk drawings on the driveway
- Puppet show
- Golf putts
