It is incredibly difficult to do everything for the glory of God. Think about it. Your favorite sports teams want you to spend your time, money, attention and social media presence to promote them and tell everyone how wonderful they are. So do your favorite bands. And movie stars. And beauty products. And supplements and oils. And your gym. And your favorite clothing stores. And everywhere else you eat, drink and go.
Furthermore, in our culture, one of the biggest temptations is to do everything to bring glory to ourselves. Our posts on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other social media give clues to what we glorify. Our old nature wants us to be selfish and self-absorbed, and if we are not careful we will post many things to bring attention to ourselves rather than to bring glory to God. We have to constantly check our motivations.
This is not to say that every post needs to be a Bible verse or cheesy Christian quote, but what it does speak to is how we are using social media platforms. Are our motivations to celebrate what God is doing in people’s lives, to encourage others, and to find ways to connect with people (as Paul discusses in 1 Cor 9:22), or rather is our motivation primarily to glorify ourself or something or someone other than God?
To give something glory is to declare how weighty, how wonderful, and how important that thing or person is. The Bible says, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
- glorify God with everything you eat
- glorify God with everything you drink
- glorify God with everything you say
- glorify God with everything you think
- glorify God with everything you wear
- glorify God with everywhere you go
- glorify God with everything you do
- do everything for the glory of God
It is not just incredibly difficult to do this but it is virtually impossible to do this without the help of the Spirit of God. The good news is we have the Spirit of God living inside us, and he will help us as we depend on him. He will lead and guide us.
Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
You must start with a surrendered life. Then you don’t have to think about what you are doing.
I totally agree thanks for sharing! God is good!
Amen, He sure is worthy.
