Just like you, Jesus was presented with opportunities to be generous. Just like you, he was tempted to not share his talents, time or treasure. But Jesus made the decision every time to do exactly what God wanted him to do. Jesus stepped into the opportunities; he didn’t run away from them or ignore them.
Notice the way that Jesus stepped up to help a large crowd of people that needed him to minister to them. He was returning from a time of prayer with the Heavenly Father, where he was being re-energized after learning of the sudden death of a near relative.
When Jesus heard about it, He withdrew from there by boat to a remote place to be alone. When the crowds heard this, they followed Him on foot from the towns. As He stepped ashore, He saw a huge crowd, felt compassion for them, and healed their sick. (Matthew 14:13-14)
Jesus could have ignored the crowd and gone home. He could have sent them away. He could have explained to them that he was too exhausted. But on that day, Jesus knew that the Father wanted him to spend time with the crowd, bringing healing to each person who was sick. And he generously stepped into the opportunities.
He stepped ashore. He displayed bold generosity. Will you?
