If we are going to pattern our lives after the most amazing person who ever walked the planet, we need to know what he was like. The Bible tells us so much about Jesus. In this post, we want to focus on the fact that Jesus was growing.
Have you ever thought much about that? The eternal God of the universe came to earth as a man, and he wrapped himself in humanity so much that he needed to grow just like we do. The Bible says that as a young man “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people (Luke 2:52).”
He grew mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. The perfect Son of God grew! And if he needed to grow, then you and I do too.
So take a quick self check-up. Where can you set some goals for growth? Here are some suggested growth goals for each of the four areas above.
Mentally/wisdom — increase the number of books you read this year. The website Vessel Project even has daily downloads of free and discounted books for your Kindle or other e-reader. Another goal could be to set a regular time to meet with a spiritual mentor to help you as you walk with Christ.
Physically — begin a regular exercise program. Walk more. Eat healthier.
Spiritually — read the Bible daily. Serve in a new ministry. Go on a mission trip. Spend more time in concentrated prayer.
Socially — set regular times to get together with friends, to strengthen friendships and make new ones. Invite people to your home more often for coffee and dessert, or a meal.
Come on. Let’s grow!
