Every day you face spiritual battles. Even during the holidays, you will find yourself being tempted to lose your temper, to be greedy, to be selfish, to be unloving, to be materialistic, and much more. Stand with Christ. Overcome the devil. You can do it. God will empower you. He will help you. He will outfit you with the spiritual armor you need.
Remember: people are not your enemy. Satan is your enemy. The battles you face are all spiritual battles. For example, if a husband and wife are fighting, they should pause, pray, and remind each other that their real enemy is the devil. When they refocus like this, together they can remind each other how to stand in victory.
Ephesians 6:10-13 (HCSB)
10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. 12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.
So how do you stand in victory? First, realize that you are victorious! One of Satan’s tactics is to make you think your goal is to win. Your goal is not to win. Jesus – through His death and resurrection – has already won the victory! Your goal is not to win. Your goal is to stand with Christ in victory. In Christ, you are already a winner! Stand in victory. Essentially, say something like this, “Satan, you are defeated. Christ is victorious. I am standing with Him. I am standing in victory, living in holiness through Christ.”
The book of Ephesians teaches us that in Christ we are saved by grace through faith. We are seated with Christ. He is our Lord, our Savior. We are saved by grace through faith, and we walk by faith. Let us stand in victory.
Arm yourself with the full armor of God. As you get dressed each day, mentally “put on” each piece of God’s armor. Believe that you WILL stand in victory throughout the day, walking in holiness and Christlikeness, overcoming the devil every time he tempts you to sin.
Ephesians 6:14-17 (HCSB)
14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, 15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. 16 In every situation take the shield of faith, and with it you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word.
Take a look at verses 14-17. Arm yourself:
- belt of truth
- righteousness like armor on your chest
- sandals on your feet to spread the good news of peace
- shield of faith
- helmet of salvation
- sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God
Think about the importance of each piece of the armor of God. Re-read verses 14-17. Take a moment to “outfit” yourself, take a moment to pray, then stand in victory with Christ!
